Cherry Audio’s Octave Cat synthesizer emulerer The CAT duofoniske synthesizer, der blev lanceret af Octave Electronics i 1976. Udviklet i samarbejde med The CAT’s originale designer, bevarer Octave Cat ($49 MAP/$69 List) al growl fra den originale hardwares fede, vilde lyd og replikerer dens aggressive resonante filter. Octave Cat har den fleksible modulation, skrigende audio-range oscillator cross-mod og intense oscillator sync fra den originale hardware og udvider det med øget polyfoni, et robust integreret effektsuite og en alsidig dual-step sequencer.
1976: Året for The CAT
I begyndelsen af 1970'erne var bærbare synthesizere en sjældenhed, og kun et udvalg af musikere kunne betale for de legendariske Minimoog eller ARP Odyssey synthesizere. I erkendelse af dette besluttede en lille gruppe ingeniører i New York, ledet af den brillante 22-årige Carmine Bonanno, at ryste tingene op og skabe overkommelige synthesizere med innovative funktioner, hvilket gav anledning til Octave Electronics.
Med inspiration fra sine egne designs til et modulært system satte Bonanno og hans team sig for at skabe en synthesizer, der ikke kun var tilgængelig for kommende musikere, men som også havde banebrydende funktioner.
